ISO 13849-1:2015 provides safety requirements and guidance on the principles for the design and integration of safety-related parts of control systems (SRP/CS), including the design of software. For these parts of SRP/CS, it specifies characteristics that include the performance level required for carrying out safety functions. ISO 13849 is a safety standard which applies to parts of machinery control systems that are assigned to providing safety functions (called safety-related parts of a control system). ISO 13849-1, Part 1: General principles for design, provides safety requirements and guidance on the principles of design and integration of safety-related parts of EN ISO 13849-1 is the most important standard for regulating the basic principles and performance required of a safety control system for machines and devices. This standard was greatly revised in November 2006. This revision has caused major changes in the fundamentals of safety system design. This document was prepared to help explain NOTE 3 The requirements provided in this part of ISO 13849 for programmable electronic systems are compatible with the methodology for the design and development of safety-related electrical, electronic and programmable electronic control systems for machinery given in IEC 62061.

NOTE 3 The requirements provided in this part of ISO 13849 for programmable electronic systems are compatible with the methodology for the design and development of safety-related electrical, electronic and programmable electronic control systems for machinery given in IEC 62061. This training course addresses how EN ISO 13849-1 (the safety-related control systems standard) is applied in automation and equipment design. In addition, we introduce you to the requirements resulting from the EN/IEC 62061 standard. EN ISO 13849-1 refers any deviations to IEC 61508. Where several safe-ty-related parts are combined into one overall system, the standard des-cribes how to calculate the PL that can be achieved. For additional guidelines on validation EN ISO 13849-1 refers to Part 2, which was published at the end of 2003.
